Mention Macao and wonderful vivid images come to mind! Land of a beautiful blend of cultures - Mediterranean cum Chinese - Macao has shaped a lifestyle distinctively its own. ‘Portuguese-Chinese’ does not adequately describe the unique fusion that has evolved.
On a recent visit to Macao, I marveled at the pulsating dynamism of the city and lingered at the pockets of reflection-generating historical sites. Macao has recently been designated by the United Nations as a World Heritage Site. This designation exists for excellent reasons too. You will absolutely agree as you take in the unmistakable Portuguese architecture nestled amongst buildings of famed Chinese structural designs. And, four hundred years of Portuguese influence has also created a cuisine unmatched in its amazing tastes. If opulent hotels are your cup of tea, Macao’s abundant choices will tempt you to extend your stay!
Set amidst this backdrop, the District 80 Semi-Annual Convention in Macao promises to be one amazing, unforgettable experience. The creative Organizing Committee has put together a great programmed with fun-challenges beyond the ordinary – invitations for us to extend and discover ourselves.
A special bonus will be the presence of the International President of Toastmasters International at the Convention. This is indeed a rare honor for District 80 and for Macao. I strongly encourage all our members to come and speak with our President and to benefit from an understanding of the specific mission for 2006-07.
The Convention is in the hands of an extraordinary group of dedicated, passionate Organizing Committee members - under the leadership of Rebecca Choi. They literally go the extra mile, personally traveling beyond our own District boundaries to extend the invitations and spread messages of welcome.
If there is one terrific experience
Toastmasters International
you must treat yourself to between now and November 2006, it has to be this Semi-Annual Convention in Macao. District 80 Conventions are famed for their great value and fabulous style. Macao promises to take the November Convention to much greater heights.
I look forward very much to greeting each one of you personally and to bid you welcome.
